Factors in starting smoking
Not wanting to feel left out is a particularly important factor in considering what happens to make children start smoking. Many children are conditioned almost from birth to the expectation that they will smoke. There are strong connections between children smoking and the smoking habits of their parents and older brothers and sisters. This is hardly surprising when the strength of family bonds and the desire of small children to be like their elders is taken into consideration. Children in the early years at school usually disapprove of the tobacco habit intensely, just as they usually disapprove of the habit of drinking alcohol. By the early teens, however, they are at the stage of trying such things out, and this is because of the strong identification formed at an earlier stage between drinking and smoking and being and acting ‘grown up’.
Once adolescence has been reached the influence of a teenager’s group of friends and acquaintances begins to exert itself. The young person believes — and he or she is often right — that the more extroverted, more sexually advanced and ‘tougher’ older teenagers smoke, while the less precocious but often more academically or athletically successful ones do not. He is torn between the two and, depending on what he wishes for himself and what he believes or has been led to believe, he will you may well or will not opt for the smoking habit.

That’s very true that’s why we should set a good example to our kids and have time to educate them with what’s right and acceptable. We don’t want to see them having health issues in the future, right?
