CausesThe elbow joint forms a pivot between the humerus bone in the upper arm, and the two bones in the forearm. At the lower end of the humerus are two projections called epicondyles-to which is a number of forearm muscles are attached.  I am presently taking part in a two-week tennis tournament, but have developed a painful tennis elbow on the first day. I don’t want to withdraw from the tournament, so what should I do? You should ask your doctor for a pain-killing injection, but the may not be willing to give it. (more…)

Is it possible for tendons to be dislocated?

TendonsThis is not a very common occurrence, but it can happen. It is usually brought about buy a sudden wrenching movement sufficiently powerful to jolt the tendon out of the groove over a bone in which it normally runs. Treatment consists of manipulating the tendon back to its proper position. My boyfriend had an accident in which he cut through on of his wrist tendons. Will he be able to use his hand normally after the tendon has healed completely? The eventual outcome depends on the exact circumstances, but in most cases it is possible to sew the cut ends of the tendon together again. (more…)
